BROTHERHOOD “Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another” Proverbs 27:17

All of the struggle, work, learning and growing that takes place on a Wilderness Outreach Expedition occurs in the company of men, in a brotherhood.

In order to understand the importance of brotherhood we must first understand the nature of evil and how the principles of masculine spirituality are the weapons God gave us for confronting this evil.
Evil entered into our hearts and into the world because of the fall. The wounded and divided nature that we possess is under attack by the world, the flesh, the self and the devil.
God made man so that he is a competitive focused problem solver who desires to provide for and protect those he loves. He made him to discern and discriminate danger and evil in the world and then to defeat it. He made him so that he builds enduring relationships with other men by competing, confronting, working and solving problems together.
God gave man Brotherhood so that men could learn how to use these tools and weapons for battle against the world, the flesh the self and the devil. Only a God centered man can mentor another man. Only a God centered man can mentor a boy into authentic manhood.
The men and boys of the post modern world are under attack on the external and internal battlefields. Gone from today's culture is the natural system of mentorship between father and son and the Brotherhood between men that was prevalent in the era of farmer, crafsman and hunter. The post-modern environment subconsciously informs men and boys that they are no longer needed as provider and protector. That they should check out and become a wimp, barbarian or a buffoon.
